Is This Just A Pulled Muscle?

Patients ask me all the time if the discomfort that they are feeling is 'just a pulled muscle'. Well, it can be a little more complicated than that.
When we are talking about the spine, we are talking about a very complex system. There are muscles, bones, nerves, discs, and connective tissues (such as tendons and ligaments) all connected and working together. If an issue gets to the point that you are having that 'pulled muscle' feeling, there has probably been a problem underneath the surface for a while that you haven't felt until now.
Whatever brought the pain up to the surface is more of a worsening symptom of an already existing problem, instead of the result of one specific incident. The good news is that almost all of the time, with careful chiropractic evaluation and treatment you can be getting out of pain and back to your normal level of activity very quickly.
